Content owner

A content owner is a person or group of people that owns digital content. This can be a musician, writer, band, book publisher, music label, professor, researcher, and anybody else that owns the rights to digital content.

A content owner is subtly different from a content creator in that a content owner might not have been the person or group of people to have created a piece of digital content. This is most often the case for music record labels, where the record label hires an artist to create content that will later be sold by the record label.
