Waveform Audio, also known as WAV, is a wikipedia:lossless uncompressed wikipedia:digital audio format that provides CD-quality audio. Unfortunately, the file sizes are quite massive compared to some of the better wikipedia:digital formats out there. A typical 5MB MP3 file would balloon to 40MB if converted to WAV format. Usually, WAV files are converted to MP3 format for distribution on the Internet.
